After the events at the US Embassy in New Delhi, the Marines are being brought back as a combat unit. Newly commissioned 2dLt Anthony Niimoto, a hero of the embassy takeover, is with the first Marine battalion to get back into the deployment cycle. Assigned to anti-piracy, this is supposed to be a dull deployment. But when a US ship is seized by Somali pirates, it's First Platoon, K 3/6 at the tip of the spear. With SSgt Davidson, an ex-Ranger who returns to his Marine roots, the two of them must lead their platoon into harm's way, ever conscious of Black Hawk Down, the Battle of Mogadishu. Was Tony Niimoto a one-shot wonder in New Delhi, or does he really have what it takes to be a leader of Marines?

The Proud The Return of the Marines Volume 2 Jonathan P Brazee Books

"The Proud" returns to the world in which the Marines had been mostly cut but then restored by a grateful President. That fictional premise has very little to do with this story, however, except to utilize a few characters introduced in the first book, The Few: A Tale of the Marines in the Near Future (The Return of the Marines: Book 1). Foremost among these is newly-minted and highly decorated LT Niimoto, whose moniker "Korea Joe" has thankfully disappeared.

The story begins with Somali pirates and could have been about current events. Interesting stuff, but only backdrop for the operation to rescue two crewmen from an obscure village to which they are taken. Things get hairy, to put it mildly. The action is tense, realistic, and satisfying. What more can you ask for? The repetitive different takes on a scene are no longer used by Col. Brazee, and I thought the book was quite well put together.

Finally, unlike the complete lack of an Indian perspective in "The Few", the pirates' perspective is well told and adds an interesting layer to the story.

The Proud The Return of the Marines Volume 2 Jonathan P Brazee Books Reviews

Good read but it drags in some spots. A very intersting senario considering present times. I look forward to book # 3 as the series is done well enough to warrant continued reading.
Great read but what happened to the female Marines? They were a big part of the first book but they seem to disappear from this point forward.
While I enjoyed reading this book, I think it fell short as compared to the first book. That said, it was a good story line with great characters. Moving on to the last book in the series.
I really like this as like so many veterans of the older generation I think some of todays younger people have forgotten the sacrefice the men and women of the earlier generation gave up, these stories brought back the kind of lives they lived even though it takes place in the future.
The corps has been reinstated, but is still not built up to its former size and position. This is Black Hawk Down in Somalia with 87 bad guys and several marines and sailors killed also. Concerns US response to piracy in the Indian Ocean. Lots of gung ho action.
I like the way it was written and I believed that this could have true happening. Please read this book and judge for yourself.
Being an Marine I naturally liked the book. Being an adventure reader I felt I was rereading Cornwall with his wonderful historical action. As one who watches history I applaud the timeliness of each of Col Brazee's trilogy of books ie the embassy
attack, piracy, and China invading "off islands" in the Pacific.........Get all three.
Again Semper Fi.....
